Finding Your Ideal Partner

A simple definition of dating according to Wikipedia is, “a form of courtship by two people to assess each other’s suitability as a partner in a relationship or a spouse.” As simple as that sounds, dating is a stressful experience in any country—usually because there is an evaluation process going on, especially on the first date.

Dating has undergone a transformation over the last several years. Blind dates are still a popular way of meeting new people, along with taking classes and the workplace. However, there is a growing world-wide use of the Internet and social networking to meet new, potential dates. There are also a growing number of online dating websites that help men and women connect with each other.

As much as dating has changed and as stressful as it is for two strangers to go out on a date and get to know each other, the same basic rules still apply. Mutual respect is the foundation for finding a partner. Another important rule is to listen more and talk less. Show genuine interest in what a new date has to say— remembering what is said is important because it is a compliment to the other person. Manners are always important and never go out of style. A date is a special occasion for both people, so treat it like one. Irish dating, like dating in any other country, requires sensitivity and openness for success.

The best asset a person—man or woman—has on a date is self-confidence in who they are. That air of self-assurance puts both of them at ease. Being genuine—being real—is the key to a great date.

Adopting a More Healthy Lifestyle

In such a materialistic world, you can get lost in the rat race and forget to take care of yourself and have good priorities. What you may be looking for is a weekend away to get some clarity. Here are some things you should consider on how to implement a healthy lifestyle, not only on vacation, but also in everyday life.

Take time off. You can’t be healthy if you never get enough sleep or have any down time. If you are from an upper-class home and you can afford a day at the spa, look it up on Canada 411 and schedule a visit. If you find yourself near the lower class, put on the hot water, turn on some music, and soak in the tub. Taking time to yourself will lower your stress level and give you a healthier mind and body.

Live simply. This means letting go of any materialistic mindset you may have and being content with you, your family and a roof over your head. Find joy in a walk through a park and a picnic. Learn to appreciate a classic book. Ask yourself if you feel you need all the little gadgets that seem so important. Recognize that all the things you have or want could be a continual stress to you.

Put people first. The beauty in life is not about owning an iPhone or driving a brand new car. It is about the experiences you have and the relationships you invest in. Begin by taking a weekend away with your spouse, or spending a vacation with your friends. A healthy lifestyle begins with laughter and relaxation.

Lifestyle Changes for New Parents

Newborn baby

Congratulations on the soon arrival of your newborn. You are probably very excited and relieved that your baby is almost here. Most new parents find the last few months  before birth eternally long, but it is well worth the wait.

You probably have been tracking your pregnancy week by week; excited at the changes that your little one is going through. You’ll also want to consider the changes that will be occurring once your little one arrives at home. Most of us know life will change once we add baby to the mix, but most of us do not realize how much it will change our lifestyle.

Babies take up a lot of time and energy. Parents become unable to do anything at all for themselves it as they meet the needs of their child. Oft times, in the beginning, it is a guessing game trying to find what baby actually needs.

Fathers need to be aware that mom will need a little extra help and understanding when first arriving home from the hospital. Giving birth can be exhausting. Add in hormonal changes and lack of sleep, you get a very emotional mother.

Adding a baby to the family will change the general dynamics of your lifestyle. No more eating out multiple times a week. Loud groups over for game nights will be put on hold. Now baby’s needs will be considered first. Babies need quiet, calm, and consistency.

Though your life will be changing, baby will be blessing you with so much joy. Enjoy!

Social media today is all the rage. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and the like.

Then there’s the smart phone craze that has swept the globe. iPhone, Android, Blackberry and more.

Computers have gone from warehouse whoppers to desktops, then laptops, and now the handheld.

Apple isn’t only a fruit, and Dell isn’t just the name of your favorite fishing buddy.

Technology has become so engrained in cultures worldwide that it is no longer uncommon to see someone of lower income carrying around the latest set of tech gadgets. We have so many devices in use that we need a superhero’s utility belt just to keep it organized.

With the world swirling around us in the world of Wi-Fi and 4G networks, perhaps it’s time to give yourself a break. Go tech free tonight. Re-discover those things you left behind before constant connection took it away.

Relationships

When was the last time you had a serious date that wasn’t interrupted by someone’s text? Dropping the technology will get you to focus more on those relationships that mean the most. Staying in touch through email, texting or tweeting can be fine, but nothing beats one-on-one, face-to-face interaction.

Relaxation

The problem with always being connected is that you are always connected. Every now and then, it’s good to build some disconnect time. Your mind can rest, your body can relax, and your eyes won’t be so strained.

Focus

Completely cutting yourself off from the connected world can give you some much needed time to re-focus your energy and creativity.

Tech is good, but sometimes non-tech is even better.

Great Father and Son Activities

Spending bonding time with your children is an important part of them growing up and becoming an adult. For some parents it’s second nature and comes as easily as a duck to water. But there are times when bonding with your child may seem a little difficult. There can be many reasons why you might find it difficult, one most commonly seen these days is the breach in communication between child and adult brought on by technology.

The first thing you should do is find common ground with your child. Find out what interests them and explore those interests. You might find that you both have several interests in common.

Many activities enjoyed by father and son are someway involved in sports. Things such as going to see a game, or playing one on one in the drive way. You could even explore other cultures sports with your child.

If you child doesn’t have any interest in sports there are many other activities, things such as fishing, fixing up an old car, going on a road trip to explore your country, and even helping out in the community together.

Fixing up an old car is one of the best, especially if your son is close to driving age. It can be very rewarding fixing up your own car and then taking it for it’s first drive. And don’t be too worried about not knowing anything about cars, there are plenty of websites and books around which will make it very easy for you.

Most of all, enjoy your time with your son.

Online Dating in a Nutshell

Millions of people are online looking for dates. If you’re having trouble, it might be your profile. When you sit down to write your profile it’s hard to decide where to start–so you may start rattling off the old likes and dislikes list. But there’s more to you than your choice of soda. Here’s a little dating advice on ways to express yourself online.

Online dating sites usually include a “summery” of you; your likes, dislikes, tastes in movies/music, a rough rundown of your physical appearance and a box to tell everyone what you’re looking for in a date. Each section is important, so take your time to fill it out. A vital piece of dating advice is to keep your summery short and try to say something eye catching. Accuracy is vital to online profiles because you’re trying to find someone who will like YOU, not an incomplete version of you that has all the bad bits cut out. Be honest about yourself and who you really are. It’s also a good idea to have a friend take a good, clear and fun picture of you.

Here’s one last piece of good dating advice; if you want to attract someone who has similar interests, drives a nice car and has brown hair, make sure you say so in your profile. Describe what you’re looking for in a date, but keep the list of “must-haves” short. If you’re looking for a long-term relationship, say so. Avoid stating that you want a different type of relationship than you really do because that will attract the wrong type of person.

Good luck and good hunting.

Technology and the Net Generation

The current generation commonly referred to as generation Y or the net generation is much more dependent and intertwined with technology than previous generations. This generation uses technology as part of their everyday lives and relies much more heavily on technology as a means to complete everyday tasks as well as a social network.

The net generation uses technology for almost every aspect of their lives. This generation uses cell phones, laptop computers, technological electronic readers, and applications on their phones for everything from music to learning to read radiological MRI scans. Additionally, they rely on digital cable, internet phone service, blue-ray, smart phones, and electronic learning games.

Furthermore, this generation also relies heavily on the use and integration of technology throughout education. Although not all schools have the resources or the access to technology that they would like most schools at least have access to computer labs, digital document displays, and in many cases smart boards.

Often this generation uses this technology to interact with peers, to create relationships through social networks, to share ideas, inspirations, and goals, and to do everything from reading a book to shopping online. The use of the internet as a resource for information and entertainment also has a heavy emphasis for this generation.

Thus, the current generation is often called the net generation. This generation has also become almost inseparable from technology. As technology advances and new generations embrace these advances, we might well see even more significant changes in the way people interact with each other and in the way they participate in their daily lives.

What are Middle Class Values

The American middle class is now more often defined by their values rather than simply their income levels. In many case, the American middle class values are characteristic of the typical American dream. There values are more characteristic of this lifestyle than income alone.

In some cases, even Americans with lower incomes can attain a middle class lifestyle. In other cases, some families will exhibit the typical values characteristic of the middle class but do not have the financial means to obtain this lifestyle.

Typical values associated with a middle class lifestyle include several aspects. These aspects include a tendency towards planning for the future which includes retirement, future expenses, and higher education for their children. Additionally, middle class values often include a desire to be in control of their future, respect for and abidance of the law, and a desire for a good education for themselves and their children.

Finally middle class values also typically include a goal to move forward in socio-economic status which, is obtained through good education and hard work. These values also include a desire to protect their families from various hardships such as health issues, financial difficulties and crime.

Although the values and goals are typical characteristics of a middle class lifestyle, income does play a role in ability to attain these goals and support these values. Middle class Americans often plan ahead and save to obtain their goals and make a conscience effort to live within their financial means. Thus, a middle class lifestyle is much more than a household income but rather a way of life complete with values, goals, and desires to attain a better quality of life.

How to Propose

You’ve met the perfect girl, dated for a while and now you are sure she is the one for you. You have no question that she would make a wonderful wife and lifetime partner.

The only real issue on your mind is: will she have you?

This is a rather important issue and one that you should be fairly sure of before you “pop the question.” Fortunately, there are a few ways to be as prepared as possible before taking the leap.

Talk About Marriage

The idea of marriage should be talked about before you ever propose. This will determine if you are both on the same page and experiencing similar feelings—a rather important point in the idea of getting married.

Surprise Her

Even if you have talked about marriage at length, let the actual proposal be a surprise. Make it a very personal and unexpected moment.

Know What You Are Saying

A little practice goes a long way. Don’t become tongue-tied at the most important moment of your life.

Engagement Ring!

Do your homework on this subject. Let the ring reflect her taste and uniqueness as much as possible. If you are unsure, then make part of your proposal a trip to the jewelers together. Check out engagement.jrdunn.com for some ring ideas.

That Special Place

Where you propose can also be very important. It is certainly something that both of you will want to remember with fondness for the rest of your lives, so choose wisely. Probably shouting it at a ballgame isn’t too smart. Just be creative and aware of her favorite places, whether it is a romantic restaurant or a spot by the sea.

Old Fashioned is Good

Go ahead and drop to your knees for that moment every girl dreams of. And even though this is the 21stcentury, make sure you get her parents’ approval. And above all, give her a little time to answer.

You won’t be sorry!

What is the American Middle Class

Most Americans consider themselves as part of the middle class or sometimes referred to as the working class. Additionally, many people also consider the middle class to be defined by income levels or in some cases by employment. However, these aspects are not the only characteristics that define the American middle class.

Historically, the middle class was defined mainly by income level. However, more recently it has been suggested that the middle class is more of a specific type of lifestyle rather than just an income designation.

Middle class Americans are often defined by their aspirations and goals. This social class typically desires to own their own homes, to be able to provide their children with higher education, and the desire to be able to participate and plan family functions such as vacations.

Although it is possible to attain a middle class lifestyle on a lower income it is more difficult now than it was 20 years ago. Rising costs in housing, education, and healthcare, as well as other financial demands placed on many families can impede a family’s ability to attain middle class lifestyles.

Additionally with rising costs and slower increases in family incomes, many dual income families can have difficulty in attaining a middle class lifestyle.

What is clear is that the middle class has become more of a lifestyle description including goals, aspirations, and values rather than simply an income designation. On the other hand, it is not necessarily as attainable as many would believe. In fact, most Americans who consider themselves middle class have the desire to be middle class but have yet to achieve that goal.
